7 Ways to Beat Creativity Block

Creativity block. We’ve all been through it. It’s kind of like writer’s block but on a larger scale. It’s like someone has temporarily taken your mojo away. Everyone has their own way of getting that creative mojo back, but it never hurts to have some help along the way. That’s why we’re giving you seven ways to boost your creativity:

  1. Cultivate Your Confidence
No one can build up your confidence as well as you can. From time to time make a mental note of how far you’ve come either project-wise or talent-wise. And don’t forget to reward your progress along the way.

  2. Start Brainstorming
Sometimes creativity comes to a halt because you feel like you’ve run out of viable ideas. That’s brainstorming time. Withhold your inner critical voice and just start letting your mind go free. Write down tangent thoughts and ideas, take a break, and then review your notes. Inspiration could be waiting for you!

  3. Take Risks
Fostering new creative output isn’t the time to be cautious – it’s the time take risks. Chances are, if a concept or creative thought somewhat scares you, then you’re on the right track.

  4.  Fight Your Fears
It happens to the best of us … we’re afraid to try something new because we’re afraid of failing. As Einstein said, “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” If you don’t try new things, you’ll never know if they were the exact thing you were looking for.

  5.  Journal Your Creativity
We know, it sounds like something Oprah would do, but it works! Keep track of the progress you’ve made on a project or skill, write down your accomplishments as well as your hopes/goals for your creativity. Then periodically read what you’ve written for new-found inspiration.

  6. Find New Sources
If your creative well has run dry, it might be time to borrow from someone else’s. We’re not encouraging plagiarism, mind you! But picking up a book from a creative mind that inspires you, visiting a museum or gallery or going to the movies might start your creativity flowing again.

  7. Create Creative Opportunities
That’s what The Village Workshop is all about … giving creative people the opportunity to have the creative outlet they’re looking for. We hope to inspire our members either by learning something new in our classes or just from hanging out and learning from like-minded creative people that are following their creative dreams.

Let The Village Workshop give you a creative outlet and hopefully spark your creativity. Click here to learn about joining or check out our class schedule here.
